Review:
Eden Bistro & Bar, a culinary haven in Suva, offers a kaleidoscope of flavors from across the South Pacific region. What sets Eden apart is its willingness to embrace culinary origins from various parts of the world, making it a true melting pot of flavors. One of the highlights at Eden was when Sangeeta Maharaj, the visionary chef behind this dining gem, invited a renowned Thai chef, Chef Chay, to spend a week in her kitchens, imparting the art of Thai cooking to the local staff. This collaboration not only introduced new Thai flavors but also showcased the restaurant’s commitment to continuous learning and culinary excellence. Eden’s menu reflects Sangeeta’s dedication to sourcing the freshest ingredients. She personally visits the Suva markets every Saturday, where her favorite farmers greet her with enthusiasm, offering the best catch of the day. This dedication to quality is evident in every dish served at Eden.
Eden’s setting is sophisticated and offers an ambiance that complements the diverse menu. While it may be a bit out of the way from downtown Suva, the journey to get there is rewarded with exceptional cuisine and warm hospitality. The menu may be relatively short, but it’s carefully curated to offer variety, freshness, and delightful combinations.

For those with a sweet tooth, Eden’s desserts are the perfect way to end your meal on a sweet note. The lamb curry is highly recommended, but be sure to save room for dessert. The fusion of flavors and the use of fragrant herbs and spices make each dish at Eden a culinary adventure.
Sangeeta Maharaj: A Culinary Visionary
Sangeeta Maharaj’s journey from studying Computer Science in Auckland, New Zealand, to becoming a celebrated chef is nothing short of inspiring. Her passion for the culinary arts was ignited during part-time work at local restaurants. In 2006, during a tumultuous period in Fiji following a coup d’état, Sangeeta transformed her seaside house into a homestay that quickly evolved into a thriving dining hub, showcasing her commitment to hospitality during challenging times. Recognizing her culinary potential, Sangeeta was awarded a scholarship to Le Cordon Bleu school of culinary arts and hospitality in New Zealand. Her culinary philosophy is deeply rooted in using fresh, locally sourced ingredients, and she frequents the Suva markets to personally select the finest catch, aromatic spices, and crunchy vegetables to elevate the dining experience at Eden.
