Rooted in Culture, Soaring in Creativity
The Genesis of Laboriel Fiji
Laboriel Fiji’s inception came to life following Shane’s graduation from APTC in Fashion Design and Applied Technology. His debut at Fiji Fashion Week 2020 was a pivotal moment, marking the launch of a brand that specializes in resort and formal wear, celebrating fearlessness, confidence, and inclusivity. His collection “Adi Mau by Laboriel Fiji” pays homage to his great-grandmother, Adi Dimau Tagimaucia, blending the tagimaucia flower’s vibrant colors with traditional Cakaudrove masi designs.
Mentorship and Growth
Shane’s ascension in the fashion world has been significantly influenced by his participation in the Wearing Fiji mentoring program. Guided by mentors like Hupfeld Hoerder, Shane honed his skills in pattern making, fabric sourcing, and learned the intricacies of the fashion business. This mentorship, combined with his natural flair for design and his passion for cultural storytelling, has shaped his unique aesthetic.
In a one-on-one interview, Shane reflected on the profound impact of his mentorship, stating, “The WFJ mentorship program has helped me tremendously… I entered this program without any knowledge of how a fashion show is organized and the key aspects of how to run a fashion business.”
